Fishing Trip:  Pillar Falls

My wife finally got her wish and talked her daddy into taking us out on the boat.  I have a canoe, but it's been some time since I'd been out on a real boat.  My daughter had never been on a motor boat.  She got to sit in the back and get wet, so she's had the experience now.  That's her in the top right picture.  The bridge is the Perrine Bridge by Twin Falls, Idaho.  

We had a good day buzzing around in the boat, walking around on the banks, doing some fishing, relaxing, and such.  My daughter decided to get in the river and get wet so she could freeze in the wind on the boat ride back to the docks later.  I had to poke around and see if I could find any gold in the dirt.  (see Gold Diggers update 8/04/08 for more on that)

We did catch some fish, a few rainbow trout and some smallmouth bass.  As it turned out two of the trout we caught had rings in their lips.  These were markers clamped on to hatchery raised fish planted by Idaho Power.  Little did I know it at the time, but Idaho Power offers a chance at winning $1000 just for letting them know where and when you caught one of these fish.

Of course, I didn't know that until AFTER I let mine go back in the river.  I figured they were planted fish and I intended on getting the number off of the ring in my trout's lip, but I was getting worried he'd been out of the water too long and was going to die on me so I just let him go.

My wife caught the other tagged fish.  She was smarter than I was.  She kept hers.  She'll be entered into the drawing.  She's got the ring to keep as a souvenir.  She's got an idiot for a husband, though, because I let my chance at the $1000 swim away!

Well, at least I got a picture of it.  Too bad the picture wasn't taken of the other side where the ring was.  Maybe I could have still read the number.
