Pillar Falls Incredible Landscapes
Ah, the world famous Perrine Bridge spanning the Snake River at Twin Falls, Idaho. And what is it famous for, you might ask? Crazy people who like to jump off of it, that's what. By that I mean both crazy, depressed people who view it as an excellent place to fall and die, and crazy base jumpers who view it as an excellent place to fall and NOT die --- usually at least. Yes, base jumping is not exactly the safest sport. We have had a few accidents, saw one myself even. Although, if you're jumping off a bridge on purpose and you get hurt or killed, can we really call that an "accident"? Anyway, here's a shot of the bridge.
And here's another one from up the river a bit.
This shows you a bit of what the sides of the canyon look like.
Look at all the springs along the canyon wall.
Here is Pillar Falls itself. I know, it just looks like rocks and you don't see any falls. Try the next picture.
Ok, more rocks, still no falls. Well, there is a little bit of water running through the middle there. It's hard to really appreciate this as a "falls" from ground level. Get on Google Earth and look at the pictures available there to get a bird's eye view.
There really isn't that much water flowing over them these days anyway. You can see from the rocks where the water used to flow through at, but that was long ago before this area was settled and dams were built on the river. Now, so much water is used for irrigation that the water level through this section of the river is drastically reduced.
