Other Great Sights On Little Smoky Creek

(page 1  page 2)

Look at this very nice five point mule deer buck and his younger counterpart.  We saw them crossing the road on the drive in to Little Smoky.  First the younger buck ran across the road and I said, "Look there goes a deer!"  Then, from the same place that buck exited the road, the larger buck came running back across.  "And here comes a bigger one!" I exclaimed, surprised by the increase in antler size, but excited at what we were seeing.

Check this out.  I actually got a picture of a deer laying down.  It's hard to find deer in their beds at times as they usually will see me coming and be up and on guard before I see them.  In fact, the motion of a deer standing up is often what gives away their position.

Here are the river otters that scared the heck out of my wife by sneaking right up to her and barking hello.  (to read about that incident, see the blog entry for  8/22/08 on my MySpace Blog)

Here's another shot of the otters.  That male, on the right, is about 4 feet in length, I'll bet.  I had no idea river otters would live on such a small stream, but here's the proof that they do!

This is a female blue grouse.  She made a nice picture sitting on the stump with the flowers in the background and all.  She also would have made a nice meal had it been open for grouse hunting, but that was still a week or two away at the time.  Grouse meat is top notch good eating, trust me.  The Idaho Fish and Game has now officially changed the name of the blue grouse to the dusky grouse.  That's good because you know what?  They ain't blue!  I always wondered where they got that name from in the first place.

My wife captured this little chipmunk playing around right next to where I was digging.  She fed him some trail mix after this.  I was kind of hoping she'd get a good shot of him holding up an M & M from the trail mix, but then the dog had to get involved and the chipmunk decided not to come back out --- not even for the M & M.  Smart chipmunk.

See more great scenery on the next page.
